Our Manager Mario Serrato is originally from Colombia has been working in Education and Child Services for the past seven years. He has a background in psychology which gives him a solid theoretical foundation regarding children’s cognitive and emotional development as well as tools to help them become resilient and kind individuals. Mario holds a Diploma in Child Care Services and has completed a range of Early Education and professional development courses in nature play, sign language and autism awareness to name a few.
Mario became an Australian citizen several years ago and has experienced first-hand the cultural diversity we are so lucky to have in our country.
“We are surrounded by hundreds of different ways to see life, different points of view about childhood, different approaches to raising children and education, different music, food, religion and ways of life”, says Mario.
“It has enriched my personal and professional life in ways that I could have never had in Colombia.”
During his seven years in childcare Mario has learnt about the Aboriginals and their importance in Australian history and to Australian society. He recognises them as keepers of the land and truly believed that their knowledge and relationship with the land is something that must be a part of young children’s education.
“One of my biggest achievements is being a part of our Bush Kindy Explorers program where I am able to experiment in nature with the children and use it as an organic educational experience. I’m so proud to be part of this program.”
Mario hopes his professionalism and dedication to our children makes him a positive role model and guide for every child at Mudgeeraba Education and Care Centre every day.
